Malaysia started a high goal polo season when the Royal Malaysian Polo Association (RMPA) International League began with the RMPA Masters at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park.
Thai Polo won the RMPA Masters Polo Tournament in style, leading the entire way to beat Jogo Polo 8-6 in an action-packed final at the RMPA Masters Polo Tournament at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park.
Thai Polo’s Argentine professionals, Carlos Pando and Raul Laplacette, were the stars for the team, pocketing all of their teams goals between the two of them. Their aggressive play and consistent scoring took Thai Polo to an early lead that they never relinquished.
Jogo’s game depended on the two Pablo’s — Pablo Jauretche and Pablo Dorignac — who played an excellent game and combined well with each other. Jauretche’s all-action game also saw him pick up the Most Valuable Player prize for the tournament.
Tan Sri Hamdan’s Ranhill Polo took third place in the tournament, beating Royal Pahang Polo Club 6–4½. KotaSAS-IBIL took fifth place, beating Head Hunters 7–4½ on Thursday.
Thai Polo have now won the first two tournaments of the RMPA International League. The next International League tournament is the Royal Pahang Classic, to be played at the Royal Pahang Polo Club from May 29 to June 8.
