Rain did not deter a determined La Pampa – GTM who hung on for a narrow 4 1/2 – 4 win over La Boheme during the Visa Cup final of the Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships in October last year. Peter Ibrahim Abisheganaden, Executive Secretary and League Coordinator of the Royal Malaysian Polo Association reports that Sarah Wiseman and Claire Donnelly playing superbly with patrons Fazila Filippi and Melissa Tiernan, stunned La Boheme by going out to a 3 1/2 goal lead in the early chukkas. And despite Sunny Hale, Kirsty Hawkins, Claudia Zeisberger, Lorna Dodd and patron Puan Seri Leah Hamdan coming back strongly in the final chukka, La Boheme ran short of time.
The winning team also made a clean sweep of the prizes with Claire Donnelly snagging Most Valuable Player, Melissa Tiernan taking home the Jaeger-LeCoultre Ladies Reverso for Most Valuable Patron and her 8 year old Argentine mare, Petraka, played by Sarah Wiseman, winning Best Playing Pony. In the Jaeger-LeCoultre Cup for 3rd place, Butterfly Twists were easy victors over Jennzilla. Festivities continued into the night with a wonderful dinner by Westin for Visa’s guests and hawker stalls on the lawn, an indulgent way to celebrate a hard won victory.
